Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I

Department: Operations

Minimum Requirements: A South Carolina Biological Wastewater Treatment Class C or D license is preferred. A high school diploma or GED and a valid SC driver's license is also a requirement.

Typical Work Hours: Monday - Thursday 6:00 am - 4:30 pm (along with weekly rotating on-call/duty).

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a 10 MGD Wastewater Treatment Plant including chemical feed systems, activated sludge process, solids handling process, and pump stations. Tasks include:

  • Completes laboratory analyses, instrument calibration, sampling, and record keeping in electronic data management system
  • Makes plant inspections and records data on log sheets
  • Interprets process control data and makes appropriate adjustments to the process
  • Operates heavy equipment including a boom truck, front-end loader, and forklift
  • Completes routine maintenance and repairs on equipment
  • Monitors and controls plant processes via the SCADA system
  • Develops basic knowledge of the drinking water distribution system
  • Participates in the on-call/duty rotation (weekly) including 4 hours on Friday, and 2 hours on Saturday, Sunday and holidays
