DEPUTY DIRECTOR, WATER AND SEWER

Renewed recruitment opportunity to help lead utility operations, infrastructure planning, and customer service delivery in one of South Carolina's fastest-growing counties.

Dorchester County is continuing its search for an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking professional to serve as its next Deputy Director of Water and Sewer. This key leadership role supports the planning, management, and daily operations of a growing utility system delivering safe, reliable water and wastewater services across a rapidly expanding community.

The next Deputy Director will have the opportunity to:

  • Support and mentor a professional and operational team

  • Help guide infrastructure and capital improvement initiatives

  • Strengthen operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and customer service

  • Assist with budgeting, long-range planning, and departmental policy development

  • Collaborate with residents, contractors, partner agencies, and County leadership

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Director in shaping the future of the utility system


The ideal candidate will bring strong technical and operational expertise in water and/or wastewater systems along with excellent leadership, communication, budgeting, and problem-solving skills. A collaborative, customer-focused approach to public service is essential.

Minimum Qualifications Include:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, public administration, accounting, or a related field

  • At least eight years of progressively responsible experience in a utility, infrastructure, public works, or related environment

  • Four or more years of supervisory or management experience

  • Strong knowledge of water/wastewater operations, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and infrastructure planning

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred


Salary Range: $119,000 - $155,000
Comprehensive benefits package included. Position open until filled.
